The business was initially managed by Bill's father, John, who decided to purchase City Wreckers in 1961 after many years working in vehicle salvaging with his father Tom. Tom had previously owned Chisholm's Towing Service in Darwin, beginning a proud family heritage of 3 generations in towing and auto recycling.

City Wreckers was originally located in Burt Street, Darwin City, but as the business grew it became necessary to relocate to a new premises in Winnellie. Backed by a professional team of car wreckers and auto salvagers, as well as a broad supplier network, City Wreckers is now a leading Darwin aftermarket and recycled spare parts distributor.
